Estimated Era: Late 1700s/early 1800s
A rare and very large French antique stoneware preserving jar in a lovely shade of green over an earthy beige.
This jar would have once been used for storing things like water, wine, vinegar and olive oil and we believe it originates from La Chapelle des Pots in the Charente-Maritime department of south west France - this is interesting as potters from this village have been creating ceramics for more than eight centuries!
The top part of the jar is glazed in a lovely shade of green (over a century or two the glaze has dulled in most areas now) - these jars were often buried in the ground up to the bottom of that green area to keep the contents cool.
This stunning piece will look truly fantastic in any home, particularly those with a rustic, country and farmhouse inspired interior.
